MEETING 1 - the birth of Y|E|S net

An inaugural meeting took place on 27/28 March 2007 at the Craiglands Hotel Ilkley, at a residential conference SPACE: THE FINAL FRONTIER.  This was organised jointly by the CHILDREN'S UNIVERSITY (Sophia Khan) and SPACE CONNECTIONS (Amelia Chesters).  The event was funded by Yorkshire Forward as part of its promotion of education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Participant organisations shared their interest and involvement in the use of Space in Education, identifying the added value of working together coherently.

Workshop Themes were:

  • Curriculum Development
  • Staff Development
  • Funding Opportunities

At that meeting the decision was made to set up a network based around the use of Space in Education across West Yorkshire, and as an independent member, Paul Spencer was invited by SPACE CONNECTIONS (Martyn Chesters) to establish and coordinate the network.  It was also agreed that the meetings would be hosted in turn by members, with the first meeting at the WOW Academy in Bradford.
